Short bedtime stories

Three-to-five-minute stories for tired parents and sleepy nights.

How short is short?

  • Ages 0–2: 2–3 minutes.
  • Ages 3–5: 3–5 minutes.
  • Ages 6–9: 5–8 minutes.

1. The Little Lantern

In a quiet village at the edge of the forest, a small lantern always hung on the last house. One night, it went out. A little rabbit — brave, small and curious — walked out with a match and carefully relit it. The village slept warmly again. And so did the rabbit.

2. The Sleepy Star

High in the sky, one star kept yawning. The moon, kind and round, whispered, “It’s alright to rest.” The star closed its bright eyes, and for the first time all week, the whole sky was quiet. Down below, a little boy heard the quiet and finally slept too.

3. The Dragon Who Forgot How to Roar

A very small dragon woke up and could only whisper. He was worried — until he realised his whispers made flowers open, birds sing softer and children smile. For tonight, he liked being quiet. He curled up in his cave and dreamed of tiny sparks.
